Even
though designed as a commercial transport, Vertol paid attention to
assuring that the Model 107 would be suitable for military
use. The prototype first flew on 22 April 1958.
The Model 107 won a USMC competition in 1961 and
since then has been used extensively by both the USMC and US Navy
for both transport and rescue duties.
The Model 107 has also be sold to the RCAF,
Canadian Army and Swedish Air Force. Kawasaki of Japan
acquired world-wide sales rights in 1965.
