In
1953 Cessna introduced the Model 180 using the Model 170's
wing with a new fuselage and more powerful engine. Cessna gave
the Model 180 the name Skywagon.
The 182 Skylane, introduced in 1956, is a
tricycle landing gear version of the 180.
The Model 185 Skywagon is basically a 180 with a
more powerful engine and was first flown in 1960. In 1962, the
U.S. Air Force selected the Model 185 to supply countries eligible
for Military assistance. This variant was designated the U-17.
By the time production ceased in the 1980s, over
10,000 Skywagons were built.
