G.41 Meteor

The
Gloster Meteor was the first Allied jet fighter to see combat
in World War II. Designed to meet specification F.9/40, the
Meteor first flew in 1943.
Prototype Meteors flew with a number of
development jet engines as the new technology improved. The
first operational Meteors were used to intercept V-1 buzz-bombs and
develop defensive tactics for allied bombers against German jet
fighters.
The Meteor saw action in Korea as a ground attack
aircraft by the Royal Australian Air Force. |
